Two parallel journeys commence as a lonely, middle-aged college professor discovers a map to a temple of miracles and sets off on a mystical odyssey determined to acquire healing for a dying little girl. Meanwhile, a young boy flees from the scene of a horrific and bloody crime scene. Running away from home, the boy takes refuge with an old widow who offers him a ride into town. She is seemingly kind, but is she trustworthy? Her motives and the boy's past both seem to be shrouded in mystery.

As the man and boy's separate pilgrimages unfold, they seem to become inextricably linked and the line between the mystical and reality becomes extremely blurred. Spiritual prophets and strange phenomena abound as both characters discover that whatever commonality and purpose they may share, hides deep beneath the dark secrets revolving around this little girl on her deathbed.

A fable-like psychological thriller, filled with unusual characters and mind-bending intrigue, "American Cheese" is a mysterious tale about the consequences of buried guilt, the fiery flames of a seared conscience and the deep need for redemption.
